Main Title Sequence
Director Benny Safdie was looking for a '90s vibe in the main title sequence. BFD's Randy Balsmeyer worked with him on fonts, size and placement, color (dirty yellow), and color blushes as the titles come and go, to emulate the behavior of optical titles back in the day.
Appearing at this year’s Venice Film Festival, “The Smashing Machine” is Safdie’s feature version of the true story of UFC/MMA fighter Mark Kerr, one of the pioneers of no-holds fighting, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in amazing fight sequences, along with his long-time acting partner Emily Blunt, to deliver a “knockout” of a movie. BFDs Randy Balsmeyer was Title Designer for this film. TSM screens September 1.
