Live Action
After years of creating visual effects and designing title sequences, Randy Balsmeyer has transitioned into live-action directing. Applying his eye and skill set to story and actors is a natural extension of his filmmaking talents.
Balsmeyer was tapped by Jim Jarmusch and Fred Elmes to direct second unit for The Dead Don’t Die. Randy directed the transitions for New York, I Love You, weaving together stories and characters from ten separate shorts into a single world. He created a night on the town for 30 Rock using green screen, so the actors never had to leave the studio. And he directed a group of eight year-olds at the US Mint to create a flashback scene for the beginning of Dear John, as well as directing a sequence following a letter through the postal service. Randy also directed opening sequences for Sesame Street and Between The Lions, both of which received Emmy Awards.
In addition to creating the main and end title sequences, BFD’s Creative Director, Randy Balsmeyer, was Second Unit Director for Jim Jarmusch’s The Dead Don’t Die.
Lasse Hallström’s Dear John, from Relativity Media, opens in theaters nationwide on Feb 5, 2010, featuring Randy Balsmeyer’s directing of “young John” at the US Mint.
Based more-than-loosely on backstage shenanigans at `Saturday Night Live', `30 Rock' centres on young Liz Lemon, currently head writer for a live sketch-comedy show in New York.
The curriculum for Season 33 is focusing on stories about fear, loss, bullies and inclusion through four episodes written in response to the September 11, 2001, attacks.
Lions and librarians Theo and Cleo, along with their young cubs Lionel and Leona, run a very unique library.
