Da 5 Bloods
On June 12, Netflix will release Da 5 Bloods, an epic war drama directed by Spike Lee. It stars Delroy Lindo, Chadwick Boseman, Norm Lewis, Clarke Peters, Isiah Whitlock, Jr., Mélanie Thierry, Jasper Päakkonen, Paul Walter Hauser, Jonathan Majors, and Jean Reno.
Four African American Vietnam veterans return to Vietnam. They are in search of the remains of their fallen squad leader and the promise of buried treasure. These heroes battle forces of humanity and nature while confronted by the lasting ravages of the immorality of the Vietnam War.
BFD’s Randy Balsmeyer was the Visual Effects Producer and Supervisor for the production. Randy was on set in Thailand and Vietnam for all three months of production. Visual effects include flashbacks to the Vietnam war, including helicopter flying and crashing sequences, battle scenes, landmine explosions and green-screen shots. Randy supervised five VFX vendors in post production, including BFD.
BFD also provided all the titles and on-screen graphics for the production. This is the latest collaboration between Balsmeyer and Lee, spanning over 30 years of working together, beginning with Lee’s second feature, School Daze.
