A Serious Man

Joel and Ethan Coen’s latest film from Focus Features, A Serious Man, opens nationwide this Friday, October 2nd. Big Film Design (BFD) created the title sequence as it has for every Coen brothers’ film since Miller’s Crossing.

Imaginatively exploring questions of faith, familial responsibility, delinquent behavior, dental phenomena, academia, mortality, and Judaism – and intersections thereof – A Serious Man is the story of an ordinary man’s search for clarity in a universe where Jefferson Airplane is on the radio and F-Troop is on TV.

The title sequence forms a graphic bridge between a scene set in a 19th century Polish shtetl and the next scene that we enter through a boy’s transistor radio earpiece. Classic typography travels through a strange tunnel and gives way to a hint of psychedelia.

Seriously, we think this is one of the Coens’ best films and encourage you to enjoy it this weekend.
