It’s been a big week at Big Film Design…
DEAR JOHN
Today, Lasse Hallström’s Dear John, from Relativity Media, opens in theaters nationwide, featuring Randy Balsmeyer’s directing of “young John” at the US Mint, the travel of a letter through the US Postal Service, extreme close-up inserts of letter-writing and BFD’s digital post work.
NEW YORK I LOVE YOU on DVD
Tuesday saw the release of Vivendi Entertainment’s New York I Love You on DVD, featuring “transitions” directed by BFD founder Randy Balsmeyer. His mission was to weave the film’s ten segments into a seamless whole by connecting the characters from the various stories. Actors in Randy’s transition scenes included Eva Amurri, Justin Bartha, Rachel Bilson, James Caan, Hayden Christensen, Bradley Cooper, Chris Cooper, Drea De Matteo, Ethan Hawke, Maggie Q, Shu Qi and Anton Yelchin. Enjoy it at home if you missed it in theaters.
Oscar Nomination For A SERIOUS MAN
Tuesday also saw the Academy Award nomination of Focus Features’ A Serious Man for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. BFD is proud to have contributed the subtle title sequence for this latest masterpiece from Joel and Ethan Coen.
On February 16, Randy will be presenting his title design work at an AIGA NY Members’ Event: The Reel World: NewYork.

Big Film Design continues to innovate at the crossroads of Design and Visual Effects. Whether it’s a green screen sequence, insert photography or title design, BFD has been the “director’s choice” for the Coen brothers, Spike Lee, Mike Nichols and Woody Allen (among many others) for over twenty years.
